A day in the heart of Georgetown

At 1:08, the Chinese words on gold plaques are clan mottoes or phrases of poems.

At 1:41, those are name plaques honouring / highlighting/ showing-off prominent current and past members of the clan that spread out everywhere locally and overseas. Using millennial terminology it’s akin to “Lincoln Inn Lawyer Represents!”.

The “successful” Khoos likely gave a significant donation to the Khoo Kongsi, perhaps for restoration, maintenance or clan title and the Kongsi gave them a plaque to honor their contribution.

It is quite common here when people donate significant amount of money to private Chinese schools, the schools gift them mirror plaques to honour / thank them.
