Guide to: Iao Valley State Monument

So I’ve been pronouncing Iao wrong this entire time.  It’s actually pronounced “Ee-Ow”.   Which I suppose is still easier to pronounce than it’s traditional name “Kuka’emoku“.

Difficulty Level
It’s a short walk up the path to see the main monument;  The Iao Needle.  Almost every body should be able to do it.  I read somewhere that it would take 30 minutes, but I don’t know what hike they were on because this walk took more like 30 seconds.

Getting here
If you are going to catch an Uber or a Taxi here, make sure that they drop you off before they reach the boom gate.  Otherwise they will be asked to pay $5 just to drive in and turn around.  So hop out just before to save a few dollars.  It will then only be $1 per each walk-in.

The Iao Needle was used by warriors as a look out.

Trails
So official trails are minimal.  It will only be up a few steps to view the needle.

WORTH IT?
It’s a really beautiful place.  With a stunning view every where you turn.  I am very glad we got to see it.
